ALS from James P. Miller, former postmaster for the town of Albany in the Oregon Territory, to Thomas Nelson, Chief Justice of the Oregon Territorial Supreme Court from 1851 to June 1853. The letter relays news of Oregon Territorial judges Orville C. Pratt, Matthew P. Deady, and George H. Williams, and reports on local politics, lawsuits, and the real estate climate of the Willamette Valley region, particularly in Albany and in Marysville, where Miller reports he has been unable to sell Nelson's property.

Matthew Paul Deady, son of Daniel and Mary Ann (McSweeny) Deady, was born near Easton in Talbot County, Maryland on May 12, 1824.
